Thing #7
Ok, now I have to write about some kind of technology that interests me. This is something pretty basic but I still need to learn more about it-I made a slide show kind of thing for my parents last year and added music and quotes and stuff to it. A friend of mine makes a lot of those and they are just really nice. The music adds a lot to it and since I'm a sappy person, something like this is perfect for me to give people or just for myself. I love pictures and showing my friends and family I appreciate them. I know there are more fancy things I can do with a movie/picture maker like that so I need to explore that as well. I really have a long way to go until I feel really comfortable with so much technology-once again, hopefully library school helps with that and my good librarian friend/hero Erica up in SBN! There are a lot of other technologies I'm interested in learning more about so this Learn and Play is a great thing for me! Just to know a little about these cool things is good, then I can explore them some more.
Thing # 6
I was looking at some of the mashups on Flickr and they all seem pretty cool. I don't have my digital camera with me so I'm going to need to play with it more at home. I think the montagr seems pretty cool. I think the puzzles they have like that are pretty neat (although I've never done one) and it would be cool to do that with my own pictures. I also want to play around with the trading cards and the mappr application some more. As always, I will probably ask Erica for some help because I am definitely a visual learner and it helps to have someone explain things to me as I look at them.
Thing #5
I explored Flickr on Monday I believe. I knew about it already because of Erica (she's really on top of things). It does seem like a good site and when I have some time to go through my pictures, I would like to organize them on there and use some of the other fun stuff on there. I already put a lot of pictures on facebook but it seems like I can be more artistic with Flickr? I'm not sure, I need to explore it some more.
Thing # 3 and # 4
For tasks 3 and 4, I needed to make a blog (which I have obviously) and write a post. This is my third one, so I'd say these tasks are done. I have another blog that most people don't know about because I consider it more private. I started it when I was studying in Hungary in the fall of 2004 when I ran out of pages in my old fashioned journal that I had to actually write in (gasp!) I'm glad I started it because it is much easier for me to type and my hand doesn't cramp up so I get to write more. Plus, I had quite a few exciting things going on while I studied there so I wrote in it quite often. Anyone who knows me knows I like to talk and usually ramble on and on so blogs are great for that. I just have so many thoughts in my head!
Thing # 2
I looked at the tutorial for the different kinds of life long learning. There are some good tips in there although some of them seem like common sense. It is good to put ideas into words though so we can organize our thoughts and know how best to help people. Mentoring and teaching others is pretty easy for me. I'm a very open person and like to talk and help people. I was going to a be a music teacher originally after all, so I know how to go about teaching someone-plus, I teach piano lessons and I love watching my students develop and grow-it is very rewarding although it is just as frustrating sometimes when they don't get it. But that's my job, right? To make sure they get it. My biggest challenge from the seven and a half steps would have to be using technology to my advantage. I'm decent with technology but I definitely feel behind-I'm hoping I can improve those skills greatly from library school-and well, from Erica! She's my go-to person for a lot of things and as I've told her, I'm very lucky to have her. She's my hero/mentor.

First Day of Learn and Play
So I already have a xanga account but I have made another blog for my wanna-be-librarian self. I am excited for the Learn and Play because I want to learn new technologies and win prizes! YAY PRIZES! Also, I am in library school to be a librarian so anything library related I can learn is exciting. Well, that's all for now!
